Hyundai Inster EV micro SUV launched
Hyundai has unveiled its entry-level electric vehicle, the Hyundai Inster EV micro SUV, which is based on a modified platform of the Casper sub-compact micro SUV. This all-electric vehicle is designed to match the specifications and appeal of the 3.5-meter-long ICE Casper but comes with a longer platform stretched by 230mm, with 180mm added to the wheelbase.
The Hyundai Inster EV is inspired by the Casper, featuring circular LED DRLs with pixel-themed turn indicators embedded in a black bar. Between the DRLs, there is a black rectangular piece that houses the front camera, ADAS sensor, and the charging port. This modern-retro blend gives the Inster a distinctive look.
Measuring 3,825mm in length, 1,610mm in width, and 1,575mm in height, the Inster EV has a wheelbase of 2,580mm. It offers a boot space of 280 liters, extendable to 351 liters with the rear seats folded. The vehicle's sides feature chunky wheel arches and four-spoke alloy wheels. Additional highlights include pillar-mounted rear door handles, roof rails, and multiple sharp cuts and creases.
At the rear, the Hyundai Inster EV impresses with bold pixel-themed taillights spanning across the width, a centrally placed Hyundai logo, and circular taillamps and parking lights integrated into the bumper. The design is completed with an integrated spoiler, diffuser, shark fin antenna, and a high-mounted stop lamp.
Inside, the Inster EV diverges from typical Hyundai interiors, offering a retro design with quirky air-con vents. The vehicle is equipped with twin 10.25-inch screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment, automatic climate control, wireless charger, three-spoke steering wheel with a drive mode selector, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree surround camera, ambient lighting, blind spot monitor, sunroof, and an ADAS suite. These features make the interior both functional and stylish.
Hyundai provides two battery pack options for the Inster EV - 42kWh and 49kWh. Both packs are paired with a single electric motor, delivering 95bhp for the smaller pack and 113bhp with 147Nm torque for the larger pack. The battery packs utilize nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) chemistry, and all Inster EVs come standard with a heat pump and 85kW (DC) charging capabilities.
The smaller 42kWh battery pack offers a claimed range of approximately 300km, with a 0-100kph acceleration time of 11.7 seconds and a top speed of 140kph. The larger 49kWh battery pack has a claimed range of 350km, with a 0-100kph acceleration time of 10.6 seconds and a top speed of 150kph.
The company has not yet announced details on the India launch, but it is expected that Hyundai India might introduce the Inster EV after the Creta EV. The Inster EV is poised to compete with models like the Citroen eC3 and the Punch EV in the Indian market.
