'Made to Sign Paper With Name, Address': After FIR, Kanchanjunga Express Passenger Says Didn't File Any Complaint

Loco pilot and assistant driver of the goods train and guard of the Kanchanjunga Express train died in the collision.

Hours after an FIR was filed following a complaint in the Kanchanjunga Express accident, the complainant has backtracked with her father saying she was made to sign a paper with her name and address on it. Chinmoy Majumdar, the father of Chaitali Majumdar, who had filed an FIR against the loco pilot and co-pilot in the case has said that his daughter was in a shock post the accident and signed the paper when she was asked to by the Railway Police personnel.

“My daughter was in shock after such a big accident occurred. Then the RPF and GRP people came and took our name, address and asked us to sign, which we did. We have not made any complaint. Yesterday, we came to know that we have made a complaint. Why will we make a complaint? The GRP people came, they wrote our address and said they will give our bio data in paper, but there were no talks of any case being filed,” Majumdar told CNN-News18.

Majumdar was on board the Sealdah-bound Kanchanjunga Express that derailed on Monday after a collision with a goods train in West Bengal’s Darjeeling district. She had reportedly filed a complaint against the loco pilot and co-loco pilot of the goods train. The passenger had alleged in her complaint that the accident occurred due to the “negligent conduct of the loco pilot and co-loco pilot.”

The collision between Kanchanjunga Express and a goods train on Monday had left at least 10 people dead including the loco pilot while 25 others were injured.

The Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety, Northeast Frontier Railway, Janak Kumar Garg, has announced a statutory inquiry into the accident.

The passenger train eventually reached its destination, Sealdah station in Kolkata, in the early hours of Tuesday after restoration work was completed.
