After South Africa managed to secure their maiden T20 World Cup final, some of the former players still couldn’t believe that their former side was just one step away from the coveted trophy.

The Proteas thrashed the giant killers in Afghanistan with a win by 9 wickets in Trinidad to secure their spot in the final. The side put up an exquisite bowling performance to bowl out the Afghans for just 56 runs in the first innings which put them well ahead.

“We are in the finals. Couldn’t be happier for @AidzMarkaram and the team, one more to go,” wrote former skipper Smith on his X account, tagging current captain Aiden Markram.

One of the finest pacers during his time, the former South African international, Dale Steyn also delivered massive praise to his former side for their fine effort in the semi-finals.

“It’s emotional down here. We’re into a final. Proteas with the bit between their teeth!

The Proteas have a chance of creating history in the ongoing tournament, as they could potentially end their long-standing title drought and possibly secure their first World Cup.

There will be a lot of mental barriers that the side will have to get over considering their long-standing history of fumbling during the final hurdles. But Aiden Markram has been an exceptional leader for the side, leading by example either with the bat, ball or even on the field.

The South African side has a lot of boxes ticked and will be confident as they take on the winner of the India vs England semi-final and hopefully end their title drought. The second finalist is to be decided later today.
