The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Northwest India, including Delhi, and the Northeast states over the next 4-5 days. According to the IMD bulletin released on Saturday, the Southwest Monsoon has advanced further into East Uttar Pradesh and parts of West Uttar Pradesh. The northern limit of the monsoon now stretches through regions such as Jaisalmer, Churu in Rajasthan, Bhiwani, Delhi, Aligarh, Hardoi, Moradabad, Una (Western UP), Pathankot in Punjab, and Jammu.

IMD also said Conditions are favourable for the further advance of the Southwest Monsoon into some more parts of West Rajasthan, Haryana-Chandigarh & Punjab, and remaining parts of West Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu during the next 2-3 days.

Isolated Heavy Rainfall Expected

Isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and East Rajasthan from June 29 to July 3. Additionally, West Rajasthan can expect heavy rains on June 29, July 2, and 3. Regions such as Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha will experience heavy rainfall on June 29 and 30, while Bihar will see rains from June 30 to July 2.

Widespread Rainfall Across Several States

The IMD bulletin highlights, "Widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is very likely over Northwest, Central, and East India during the next five days." It also forecasts moderate rainfall with thunderstorms over Kerala, Karnataka, Konkan and Goa, Gujarat, and Madhya Maharashtra. States like Marathwada, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and Telangana will experience isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall during this period.

The IMD has warned of localized flooding, water logging in low-lying areas, and closure of underpasses, particularly in urban regions. Occasional reduction in visibility due to heavy rainfall and disruption of traffic in major cities due to water logging on roads is expected to result in increased travel time. There are also possibilities of damage to vulnerable structures, IMD added.

Travellers are advised to check for traffic congestion before departure and avoid areas prone to water logging.
