In an exclusive interview with Zoom, Siddharth P Malhotra opened up about the controvery.

Siddharth talked about never wanting to hurt the sentiments of people. He says, "Whatever we found objectionable in the books, we removed from the script. It's for a bigger reach. We have not made the film against any community at all. It is against one man and his thinking. Even in the film, a person from the community stands up for the right. "

Talking about how his wife is Vaishnav, Siddharth adds, "So, even Junaid's character says, I am for religion, and in 1862, he was standing to protect the integrity of women. During the scripting as well as editing, we were very careful and we even cut 25-30 minutes of the film. We are sensitive people ourselves and we are not making films for controversies. We are not making films to offend people. My wife is Vaishnav, my writers are Vishnav. 55 actors in the film are Vaishnav."

Talking about how the the film was judged before people even watched it, the director notes, "The film started getting judged by its cover. The poster came out and people judged it. Now that people have seen it, they know that it is not against the community. We have been sensitive and we are still sensitive because the last thing I would want to do ever in my life is to offend any person, forget a community."
