Delhi's Okhla underpass, closed due to waterlogging, re-opened for traffic
The Okhla underpass in south Delhi was thrown open for traffic on Sunday evening after vehicular movement was restricted by the traffic police in the morning. The decision was taken due to waterlogging following Friday's record rainfall in the national capital.
"Okhla Underpass has been opened for movement of traffic", the Delhi Traffic Police posted on X.
On Sunday morning, the traffic police asked commuters to plan their journeys accordingly.
The move came after a 60-year-old man drowned in the underpass on Saturday. On Friday, the monsoon arrived in Delhi and dumped 228.1 mm of rainfall, the highest since 1936. The torrential downpour submerged several parts of the city and claimed multiple lives.
Regular commuters were forced to take alternate routes due to the closure of the underpass.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in Delhi and has put the city on orange alert till July 2.
