Flood warning issued for Imphal as water levels of rivers cross warning mark

With thewater levels in major rivers in Imphal district nearing the flood level, an flood advisory has been issued by the district administration.

Notably, the India Meteorological Department on Monday predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over Manipur for the next five days.

Imphal West district Collector Th Kirankumar issued a flood advisory, stating that the major rivers in the district have touched the 'Warning Level' in the Imphal area and are about to touch the 'Flood Level' on Monday evening.

Similarly, Imphal East district magistrate Kh Diana also issued a flood advisory warning people of incessant rainfall in various areas of Imphal East district. She advised people to take necessary precautions to prevent the loss of life and property.

The weather department has predictedheavy to very heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning for the next five days inManipur due to a cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam and its neighbouring areas.

"Considering the above facts, the public in general and the people located in the river fronts, river banks or close to the river course are requested to state alert for any possible breach of the river banks or embankments or overflows," stated the advisory signed by the District Magistrate of Imphal West and Imphal East district.

The advisory requested the public to remain vigilant and inform any government authority (including DC Office or Police Stations or Water Resource Department or any other Office) at short notice for immediate intervention of the government so that life and property can be protected.

The catchment areas of the major rivers like the Imphal River and Nambul River are reported to be receiving continuous rainfall, it stated.
