Flight delayed, scare at Kolkata airport after passenger asks 'is there a bomb'
A Pune-bound flight was delayed at Kolkata airport for several hours on Friday due to a bomb scare triggered by a passenger's remark.
The incident occurred around noon during check-in for a private airline flight travelling from Kolkata to Pune with a stopover in Bhubaneswar.
According to the Airports Authority of India (AAI), a passenger became frustrated with the thorough security check of his luggage and said, "Is there a bomb in there?"
This off-hand remark sparked a serious response. Security personnel immediately evacuated the partially boarded aircraft and conducted a comprehensive search of all passenger baggage and the plane itself. A thorough inspection revealed no threats.
The flight eventually departed for its destination at 5:30 pm, several hours behind schedule.
This incident came close on the heels of two hoax bomb threats received by the Kolkata airport in April.
