In what can be a classic case of tiresome travel and fatigue, the South African cricket team reached Barbados six hours later than their scheduled time due to a runway issue in the final destination, according to a report in ESPNCricinfo. Logistical problems have been rampant this tournament and the latest is a problem with the runway in Barbados. Earlier, Afghanistan's flight ahead of their semifinal against the Proteas was delayed by four hours.
The Grantley Adams airport in Barbados saw an unsuccessful landing attempt by a small private plane, which led to the Civil Aviation Authority and the Barbados Police Service beginning an investigation on the same. This meant that all flights arriving to Barbados were delayed, with the South Africa team and ICC officials still in Trinidad.
The runway remained closed till the investigations continued and all flyers from Trinidad couldn't get on their flights till then.

"It appeared that the landing gear of the private aircraft did not deploy, but it is currently on the runway at GAIA [Grantley Adams International Airport] safely," Sharleen Brown, Corporate Communication Specialist with GAIA, said in a statement.
The flight carrying the South Africa team and the ICC officials was just about to take off when the pilots were informed about the issue in Barbados. All passengers had to get down from their flights and had to return back to the terminal.
Passengers were told the tentative rescheduled time was 4.30pm (2am IST), which would amount to almost six hours of delay.

This is not the first time that South Africa have found themselves in unnecessary hassle. Earlier, the Proteas, besides Sri Lanka and Ireland had to spend an entire night at the airport while travelling from Florida to New York.
South Africa will play India in the final of the T20 World Cup on Saturday, June 28 in Barbados.
