Famous TV actress Hina Khan has been diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast Cancer. The 36-year-old actor took to Instagram to break the news, requested privacy and assured fans that she would overcome this challenge with her family by her side. Hina Khan's Instagram statement on her breast cancer diagnosis read: "Hello Everyone, To address the recent rumour, I want to share some important news with all the Hinaholics and everyone who loves and cares for me. I have been diagnosed with Stage Three Breast Cancer. Despite this challenging diagnosis, I want to reassure everyone that I am doing well. I am strong, determined, and fully committed to overcoming this disease. My treatment has already begun, and I am ready to do everything necessary to emerge from this even stronger."

Breast cancer in females is the leading cause of cancer incidence and mortality in India and accounts for 13.5 per cent of new cancer cases and 10 per cent of cancer-related deaths. In 2022, there were 2.3 million women diagnosed with breast cancer and 670,000 deaths globally. Breast cancer occurs in every country of the world in women at any age after puberty but with increasing rates in later life. But what are the signs and symptoms to watch out for? Let’s check.

New Lump in the Breast or Underarm: One of the most common early signs is a new lump or mass in the breast or underarm area. These lumps are often hard, painless, and have irregular edges, although some can be soft and tender.

Thickening or Swelling of Part of the Breast: Any unusual thickening or swelling in a specific area of the breast should be examined, even if no lump is felt. This could indicate changes in breast tissue that need medical evaluation.

Irritation or Dimpling of Breast Skin: Skin changes such as irritation, dimpling, or puckering may indicate underlying issues. Dimpling can resemble the skin of an orange and warrants immediate medical attention.

Redness or Flaky Skin: Red, scaly, or flaky skin in the nipple area or breast can be a symptom of breast cancer. Persistent changes should be evaluated by a healthcare provider.

Nipple Retraction or Pain: If the nipple starts to pull inward or you experience pain in the nipple area, it could be a sign of breast cancer. This symptom should not be ignored.

Nipple Discharge: Discharge from the nipple, other than breast milk, can be alarming. A discharge that is bloody or clear could be associated with breast cancer and requires medical evaluation.

Changes in Breast Size or Shape: Any noticeable change in the size or shape of the breast should be assessed. This includes asymmetry or changes that occur over a short period.

Breast Pain: Although many breast cancers are painless, some may cause discomfort or pain in any part of the breast. Persistent or unexplained breast pain should be investigated.

Swollen Lymph Nodes: Swelling in the lymph nodes under the arm or around the collarbone can sometimes occur before the original breast tumour is large enough to be felt, indicating that cancer may have spread to lymph nodes.
