The tragic events unfolded as police officers clashed with demonstrators, leaving families shattered and a community in mourning.
NTV reports that on the fateful day, Austin left home at lunchtime to look for his younger siblings so that they would come for lunch.
Little did he know that this routine act of care would be his last.
As the protests escalated, police responded with tear gas and bullets, creating chaos and panic among the crowd.
Many sought cover, desperate to escape the violence. But for Austin, there was no escape.
“Police were lobbing teargas and bullets, so much that many of us had to seek cover,” the grieving mother said.
His mother, Maria Khayange, grief-stricken and waiting anxiously for his return, received the devastating news: her son had been gunned down.
According to the bereaved mother, Austin was shot six times; in the head, neck, legs, stomach and ribs.
The deceased, the firstborn of three siblings, was praised as a caring teen who always prioritized his siblings' needs.
"He had a problem with comprehension due to his condition, but he always took the others to school and back," Maria lamented.
