Euro 2024 Round of 16 predictions, fixtures, results: Sunday 30 June

The knockouts continue at Euro 2024 on Sunday, with two more nations set to book their quarter-final places in Germany.

Spain have thrust themselves forward as one of the form teams and will go up against tournament darlings Georgia.

Before that it’s England, who tackle Slovakia in their Round of 16 clash as they attempt to piece some form together as the competition reaches the sharp end.

Round of 16: England vs Slovakia – 18.00

England and Slovakia kick off the second day of knockout football at Euro 2024 on Sunday, as they meet in the Round of 16 in Gelsenkirchen.

Gareth Southgate’s pre-tournament favourites have underwhelmed in Germany so far, despite topping Group C.

They did so having collected five points, winning their opening match with Serbia thanks to Jude Bellingham’s early header.

A 1-1 draw with spritely Denmark followed, as Harry Kane opened his account, while the less said about their goalless encounter with Slovenia the better.

Their opponents came through a bizarre pool in which all four teams finished on four points.

Third place was their reward from the raffle – and was secured chiefly thanks to their opening game upset of Belgium, with Ivan Schranz scoring the only goal in just the seventh minute.

Defeat to Ukraine followed, but a draw against Romania, with Ondrej Duda on target, ensured they made it through.

The winners will face Switzerland in Duesseldorf next Saturday.

Round of 16: Spain vs Georgia – 21.00

Spain face Georgia on Sunday night, as they continue their Euro 2024 quest in the Round of 16 in Cologne.

A place in the quarter-finals is at stake and the draw has thrown up a David vs Goliath contest.

It was a breeze through Group B for the Spanish, who notched a perfect record with three wins from three.

They set the tone with an opening 3-0 demolition of Croatia, as Alvaro Morata, Fabian and Dani Carvajal all scored before half time.

Euro 2020 champions Italy could well have suffered the same fate in the second game, instead feeling relieved to come away with a defeat by only a single goal.

It was the same story for a much-changed line up against Albania, as Ferran Torres scored to ensure top spot.

Few would have predicted Georgia’s progression to the knockout phase, not least after their opening 3-1 loss to Turkiye.

But they roared back in securing a draw with Czechia, as Georges Mikautadze netted from the penalty spot.

And he repeated the trick in an historic final group game against big shots Portugal, as the tournament first-timers sealed an outstanding 2-0 victory.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored the early opener, paving the way for the adventure to continue into the second half of the tournament for Willy Sagnol and his side.
