The virtual court session for the case where the Law Society of Kenya challenged the deployment of the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) to deal with protesters attracted over 1000 participants, with many Kenyans keenly following the proceedings.
What exactly went on during the proceeding?
The virtual session, which hosted 1055 participants, overwhelmed the Teams link, preventing others from joining.
Some Gen Z attendees could be heard wondering if Justice Mugambi had chosen to join protesters after he took some time to begin the session.
"Kwani huyu judge alienda maaandamano",one person posed.
Occasional background conversations were audible in the virtual court session as participants had not muted their microphones.
However, a court official later told participants to conduct themselves with decorum. After a while of waiting the judge requested to be given sometime to complete the ruling..
This frustrated the Gen Z attendees who had been waiting for the judge for a considerable amount of time, leading them to make a lot of noise.
The court official attempted to calm the impatient Gen Z by instructing them to wait until 5:20 p.m. for the finalization of the ruling.
"Court clerk has apologized for the long delay saying Justice Mugambi will issue the ruling at 5.20pm," court official said.
This further angered the impatient Gen Z, who were heard chanting a well-known slogan to express their dissatisfaction with the government.
"Ruto must go....Ruto must go..," angry Gen Z were heard shouting in protest.
The young attendees declared their intention to remain logged in and wait for the judge. Justice Lawrence Mugambi is set to issue directions in the case filed by the LSK.
Can a virtual meeting accommodate 1000 participants?
According to Microsoft support, Teams can accommodate up to 250 video participants concurrently in a meeting or webinar, depending on the subscription plan in use.
An organization, can host up to 300 simultaneous meetings or webinars. Microsoft suggests limiting the number of users in a single tenant to a maximum of 20,000 for optimal performance.
Court stops deployment of KDF to stop protests
Earlier, TUKO.co.ke reported that President William Ruto suffered a major setback in his plan to deploy the Kenya Defence Forces to thwart violence in various parts of the country.
On Wednesday, June 26, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) sued Defence CS Aden Duale and the National Assembly over the deployment of KDF following anti-Finance Bill protests.
LSK pleaded with the court to suspend the decision pending the hearing and determination of the case.
