The family, including two children, were sleeping when their house was washed away by the relentless force of nature. In a neighbouring area, a woman and her 3 year old daughter also lost their lives under similar circumstances. In Baglung district, which borders Gulmi. Two more people were killed in another landslide. These incidents have added to the growing toll of casualties in Nepal since the monsoon rains began. Since mid June, at least 35 individuals across Nepal have died due to landslides, floods, and lightning strikes. The monsoon season, which typically lasts until mid-september. Landslides and flash floods are particularly common in Nepal's mountainous regions during this period. Poor disaster management infrastructure further amplifies the devastation, highlighting critical needs for improved preparedness and resilience strategies. Nepal is one of the most landslide prone countries in the world, a consequence of its unique topography, geology, climate and socio economic setting. According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, Nepal has one of the highest fatality rates from landslides globally.
