Why was Lucas in the Finance bill protests?
In an interview with TUKO.co.ke, the Kibera native said that he was handing out with other photographers in a corner of the city, hoping to get some good photos of the Finance Bill photos when all hell broke loose.
According to the documentary photographer, police allegedly came out of nowhere and lobbed tear gas at where the old beggar was sitting, and she did not know what was happening.
"I looked back to see if I could get some shots, and there she was scratching the gates of a shop. The smoke was all over, and that is when I realised that she couldn't see, and I ran to get her.," he said.
"I ran with her all the way to an eatery and placed her there. The last I saw of her, she was safe, and she was being fed by the hotel. Iam still looking for up to now to know is she is okay," he added.
Why did Lucas stop everything to save the beggar?
Lucas's work focuses on day-to-day pictorial stories, bringing up the beauty of cultures and what else is going on around him. He was also at the protests because he said he comes from Kibera, and historically, people have been profiled from there for being Luos, and he needed to be heard as well.
"We are not getting enough chances and we have had enough. I also wanted to be there and witness the fight of the young people for their future," he added.
"For the love of humanity and fight for freedom. I will never stop; proud of myself," he said.
