Airtel and Jio have rolled out 5G networks across the country. Compared to 4G, 5G offers superior download/upload speeds and lower latency. This benefits tasks such as gaming and live streaming. Most smartphones intelligently switch between 4G and 5G to conserve battery life, but this can affect network performance, especially during data-intensive tasks.
A simple trick ensures your device stays connected to 5G, provided coverage is available. If you're an Airtel or Jio 5G user, here's how to keep your smartphone on 5G:
Before proceeding, make sure there are no 5G network issues in your area. If there is a coverage problem, your phone will be out of service. Also, make sure you have an active data pack with 5G coverage. Currently, both Airtel and Jio offer select 4G plans with unlimited 5G data on eligible smartphones.
While the process may vary slightly between devices, on most Android phones, this is the standard procedure to follow:

Make sure the network is set to 5G-only mode (Express Photo)
Go to Settings > Connections or Network & internet > Mobile network > Network mode and select 5G only.
Also, enable Vo5G (Voice over 5G), which ensures voice and video calls use the 5G network.
On some phones, you may find an option called Smart 5G or 4G/5G auto switch. Disable this feature to prevent frequent network switching.
If you experience network issues when using 5G only, switch back to 4G/5G for stable coverage. By adjusting these settings, you can ensure that your smartphone remains connected to the 5G network whenever available.
