CLEVELAND, Texas — An 84-year-old woman and a 9-month-old child were found dead in a mobile home fire in the Tarkington area near Cleveland, Texas Tuesday night, according to the Liberty County Fire Marshal's Office.
Crews with the Tarkington Volunteer Fire Department and the Cleveland Fire Department responded to the scene on County Road 2198 around 8 p.m.
When units arrived, they were able to bring the woman out of the home, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. The child's body was discovered when crews reentered the home.
The fire was quickly put out and investigators said it started in the living room. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
The state fire marshal is expected to investigate the fire as well.
