On a tumultuous week for Ole Miss football, another star recruit de-committed from the school's 2025 recruiting class. Five-star running back Akylin Dear has been committed to the Rebels since March, but he's now back on the market.
Dear is a 6'1", 200 lb recruit from Quitman, Mississippi. According to 247Sports, he's ranked as the top running back in the 2025 class, and he ran for over 2,000 yards and 27 touchdowns in his junior season at Quitman High School.
After Alabama lost out on Dear in the initial recruiting process, the Crimson Tide are now projected to land the star talent. On3's recruiting prediction machine gives Alabama an 84.7% chance of landing Dear.
According to 247Sports national recruiting analyst Cooper Petagna, Dear is a "strong north south runner" with "good patience and vision at the line of scrimmage." Petagna also calls him an "efficient mover that can make defenders miss ... [and] exhibits the separation quickness and long speed to be a home-run threat at the next level."
On June 25, On3 vice president Steve Wiltfong issued a crystal ball prediction for Alabama to flip Dear. While the Mississippi product has not officially visited Tuscaloosa, that prediction now has serious legs.
Alabama currently has the second-ranked recruiting class for the 2025 cycle as new head coach Kalen DeBoer is building a legendary foundation of talent for the new era of Crimson Tide football.
