Mamelodi Sundowns go back to Europe! New destination revealed

Mamelodi Sundowns have become the latest DStv Premiership side to announce plans of touring Europe for preseason.

Sundowns follow the foot steps of Orlando Pirates once again, who announced their return to Spain two weeks ago.

Sundowns toured the Netherlands last season

Like Pirates, this will be the second time in a row that Sundowns head abroad. Last season, they went to the Netherlands, where they even played against topflight opposition from Belgium. They played to a 2-2 draw against KAA Gent, amongst other sides. This time around, their club chairman Tlhopie Motsepe has confirmed that they have chosen Austria as the destination for their preseason.

“As we prepare for the upcoming season, plans are underway for a return to Europe for our pre-season. This time, after considering different countries and continents, the team has opted for Austria where they will face some top European sides. We trust that preparations will be in-depth and vigorous as they were in the Netherlands last year. The camp in Austria will also assist with the preparations for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.”.Confirmed Motsepe to the Sundowns digital paper.

Austria the next destination!

Sundowns will be hoping the trip to Austria helps fine tune their levels. This ahead of what is set to be another gruelling season. Last season, the club played in 57 matches across all competitions, which is almost equivalent to two DStv Premiership seasons! Last season, the side  played in six competitions. The league, MTN8, Carling Knockout Cup, CAF Champions League, African Football League and the Nedbank Cup. Next season, they will add the FIFA Club World Cup.

Out of the six tournaments, Sundowns only won two. The league as well as the AFL. They will be hoping to do much better in that regard next season. The ground work for all the progress they will look to make, could be laid in Austria.
