Princess Anne hospitalized, won't attend ceremony in St. John's
There is breaking news this hour on the Royal Family Buckingham Palace announcing Princess Anne is in hospital with a head injury and this is going to have an impact on her planned trip to Canada in just a few days. Anna Cunningham is in our Bureau in London. Anna, what are the breaking details? Well, Heather, we were told that this incident happened yesterday actually on the Princess Royal Estate, Gatcombe Park, which is in Gloucestershire at Buckingham Palace, saying that she was admitted to hospital with minor injuries and concussion. And that statement from the palace said that Princess Anne, who is 73 years old, is expected to make a full and swift recovery and that she will remain in South Mead Hospital, which is in Bristol in southwest England at the palace, saying as a precautionary measure for observation. Now, we have been told that the king has been kept closely informed and he says that he joins the whole royal family in sending his fondest love and well wishes to the Princess for a speedy recovery. Heather In terms of exactly what caused this incident and the princess's injury, well, that hasn't been fully disclosed, but we do understand she was walking and that there were horses in the vicinity and that her injuries are understood to be consistent with a potential impact from a horse's head or legs. Heather And as she has the recovery now, Anna, this is going to have a bearing on plans to come to Canada. She was to have been in St. John's, NL for Memorial Day, which is on July the 1st. So what impact is this having? Yes, that's right. I mean, Princess Anne has a reputation for being one of the hardest working Royals. She did recently take part in those D-Day commemorations. And this trip to Canada would have been firmly on her agenda. But it has been said now in this statement from the palace that she will remain in hospital until or unless her medical team advise otherwise. So I think we can take from that that she won't be getting on a plane to Canada and we'll expect to to hear more as to whether that trip will be rearranged or or what will happen instead. Heather, Anna, thank you very much. We'll get to in terms of new information and wait for further reaction from officials in Newfoundland on that as well. Anna Cunningham, thanks.
