Torrential rain may dampen some long weekend plans on Ontario
This Trans Canada low pressure system that brought widespread flooding to the Prairies on Thursday makes its debut in Ontario on Saturday, and we have a ton of atmospheric moisture. Those dark Reds indicate very heavy moisture, which leads to heavy rain, torrential downpours, and even some storms. Speaking of storms, here's a look at our storm risk for Saturday. Now, we do have a slight region of severe possible from just E northeast of London stretching down to extreme southwestern Ontario for those embedded storms with stronger wind gusts and those torrential rains. So here's a look. We're going to get a first round of that widespread heavy rain early Saturday morning, and that's when we have the chance of some embedded thunderstorms. That departs and then a cold front moves in and that's going to spark up a line of potentially more intense thunderstorms from London all the way up to Bancroft and beyond. So kind of following the 401 corridor. Now this could happen. It all depends on where that cold front sets up between the lakes. But if you are driving on Saturday evening, just be prepared for some tricky travel conditions. We could see some pretty intense rainfall as well, upwards of 40mm along the lake shores, particular the Niagara region and then eastern Ontario getting quite a lot of rain up to 40mm and even potentially some more locally. Lots of thunderstorm energy. Once that cold front enters the picture, you're kind of going to see that line of red just form there. It is Woodstock to Newmarket of the potential for those lines of storms to produce and the winds are going to be picking up as well. We could get upwards about 60 to 65 kilometers in the Niagara region.
