Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala says Germany has difficult path, but embraces the challenge
At EURO 2024, Germany was a true wild card entering the competition.
After years of subpar performances in big tournaments, the Germans have finally found a rhythm and morphed into one of the favorities.
Still, to win, the Germans will have to overcome some major obstacles, a fact not lost on Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala.
“It’s not an easy path. But if you want to win the title, you have to beat the best teams. And we’re taking on that challenge. We have the belief and the self-confidence to win the Euros. If we stay focused from game to game, everything is possible,” Musiala told Abendzeitung’s Maximilian Koch (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “That would be really cool. A European Championship final against England would definitely be my highlight, a special moment in my career. But that’s a long way off, we have to think from game to game.
“The game against Switzerland certainly wasn’t easy. But overall there are a lot of positive things: the way we play, the number of chances we create - that’s good, we have to keep going like that. The important thing is that we have the desire to score goals and to get into the penalty area. There have been positive and negative phases in recent years. Now the team spirit is definitely great. And we need that to get far in this tournament.”
Musiala, of course, almost suited up for England before ultimately choose to play for Germany. Now, he follows the Three Lions from afar and thinks they will get better.
“I’ve read a few things 9about his choice to play for Germany), but I’m not thinking about it too much. I never had any doubts about my decision to play for Germany — not even at the past tournaments, which didn’t go so well for us,” said Musiala. “I am convinced that England has so much quality in their team that things will turn around for them.”
