Map shows the worst flu rates in each state with CDC reporting high levels of spread

Seven states are experiencing “very high” influenza-like activity, according to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC) map. The FluView report, whose data is from the week ending December 23, showed an increase in outpatient hospitalizations due to influenza-like illnesses.

It comes as authorities have warned of the zombie deer disease spreading throughout the United States and parts of Canada. Experts are also worried about a deadly fungus whose number of infections is growing rapidly, as shown by a CDC map.

Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and New Mexico are all reporting high levels of spread, according to the CDC. The Tennessee Department of Health released figures, that showed that hospitalizations went up to 11.9% compared to 7.2% the previous week.

The Shelby County/Memphis area of Tennessee is reporting the highest hospitalization rate, at 19.5%. Following that are Madison County/Jackson at 13.6%, Hamilton County/Chattanooga at 13.2%, and then Northeast Region at 12.5%.

Throughout the United States, the hospitalization rate is the second highest flu rate at this time in flu season, coming only second to last season. Adults over 65(38.8%), adults between 50 to 64(18.9%) and children four years old and younger(16.6%) are the cohorts who have been hospitalized most by flu this season.
