In the first blockbuster trade of the 2024 NBA offseason, the Brooklyn Nets sent Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks. The Nets had, of course, acquired Bridges when they traded away Kevin Durant and as a result, they have gotten quite the return from that deal they did with the Phoenix Suns in 2023.
The Nets have turned the asset that was Durant into Cam Johnson, Bojan Bogdanovic, eight unprotected first-round picks, one protected first-round pick, a 2028 first-round pick swap, a 2028 unprotected pick swap, and three second-round picks. Here's the full breakdown.
- Cam Johnson
- Bojan Bogdanovic
- 2023 unprotected 1st-round pick (from Suns) - Selected Noah Clowney 21st
- 2025 unprotected 1st-round pick (from Suns)
- 2025 unprotected 1st-round pick (from Knicks)
- 2025 top-four protected 1st-round pick (via Bucks)
- 2025 2nd-round pick (from Knicks)
- 2027 unprotected 1st-round pick (from Suns)
- 2027 unprotected 1st-round pick (from Knicks)
- 2028 unprotected 1st-round pick swap (from Suns)
- 2028 unprotected pick swap (from Knicks)
- 2028 2nd-round pick (from Bucks)
- 2029 unprotected 1st-round pick (from Suns)
- 2029 unprotected 1st-round pick in (from Knicks)
- 2029 2nd-round pick (from Bucks)
- 2031 unprotected 1st-round pick (from Knicks)
That's an incredible haul. I expect Cam Johnson to get traded as well, so expect some more draft picks to be added in here. The Nets deserve credit for turning Durant into so many assets, but the key now would be to hit on a couple of these picks.
They drafted Noah Clowney with the Suns' pick in 2023 and he has shown some promise. Clowney spent much of his rookie season in the G League but did get to play for the Nets toward the end of the season.
In the month of April, Clowney averaged 12.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.6 steals, and 1.9 blocks per game. He also shot 60.4% from the field and 47.1% from beyond the arc. With the Nets now clearly in rebuild mode, expect to see Clowney get a bigger role next season.
The Nets have parted with some of that draft capital from that list too. They traded the 2027 first-round pick of the Suns to get back their 2026 first-round pick from the Houston Rockets.
The Rockets also got the right to swap a 2025 Houston/OKC first-rounder for the 2025 Phoenix first-round pick. That eliminated the swap deal that was in place for Brooklyn's 2025 first-round pick with the Rockets, which means the Nets have taken back control of their own picks.
The Rockets will also be getting the more favorable of the Mavericks and the Suns' 2029 first-round pick. They have the right to swap their 2029 first-round pick for the less favorable one from that set as well.
