‘You can’t see any weaknesses in Jannik Sinner’s game’

Former world No 1 Ana Ivanovic claims there are no “weaknesses” in Jannik Sinner’s game – as the Italian targets a second Grand Slam of the year at Wimbledon.
Sinner has undoubtedly been the dominant force in the men’s game since the tailend of the 2023 season, starting with his run to the last four at the All England Club twelve months ago.
He proceeded to win the first two Masters 1000 titles of his career, alongside reaching the final of the ATP Finals and anchoring Italy to a first Davis Cup title in 47 years.
Since then, he has claimed his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open title, and has won four titles overall in 2024 – more than any other man on tour.
And a run to the last four at the French Open meant that he became world No 1 for the first time after Roland Garros, ensuring he is the top seed in the men’s draw at SW19.
Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Ivanovic expressed her admiration for her fellow world No 1.
“I’m really happy to see Sinner at number one in the world,” she said.
“I love his style of play and also his personality. You can’t see any weaknesses in his game, he’s strong from all sides. He seems very focused and composed and I love watching him play.”

Sinner showed his grass-court credentials across his past two campaigns at Wimbledon, reaching the quarter-final in 2022 and the last four in 2023 – falling to Novak Djokovic in both campaigns.
However, not only does he come in as the world No 1 and top seed this year, he has also built some momentum on the surface with victory at the Halle Open.
The Italian dropped a set in each of his first three matches but notably improved as the tournament went on, beating good friend Hubert Hurkacz in two tiebreak sets in Sunday’s final.
That was a first title on grass for Sinner, and he is perhaps a slight favourite for the title, ahead of world No 2 Djokovic and world No 3 Carlos Alcaraz.
It is not yet officially confirmed if Djokovic will play the tournament as he continues his comeback from a meniscus tear, though the fact he is in London would suggest he intends to play.
Alcaraz, meanwhile, suffered a surprise loss to Jack Draper at Queen’s, and dropped back to world No 3 after failing to defend his title there.
The Spaniard is the defending Wimbledon champion and will still be confident after his French Open triumph, beating Sinner from two sets to one down in the semi-final.
But Sinner won the only previous SW19 clash between the two, in the round of 16 in 2022, and also beat Djokovic on his way to the title in Melbourne earlier this year.
