This is a big offseason for the Philadelphia 76ers. For years, the fans have trusted the process. Now, it is time to start delivering substantial results. And the franchise must make the most of the cap space available to them.
The majority of the speculation has been about a potential superstar signing. Names like Paul George, LeBron James, Jimmy Butler, Brandon Ingram and many others have been linked with a move to the City of Brotherly Love this offseason.
Signing a superstar to team up with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey is well and good, but at the same time, it will be equally important to build the rest of the roster as well.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is someone who could end up becoming available this summer.
He has a player option worth about $15.4 million for the 2024-25 season. So, he could choose to return for another season with the Denver Nuggets or become an unrestricted free agent to test the waters of the free agency market.
There is a very real possibility that Caldwell-Pope could land a bigger payday than that in free agency.
As reported by Bleacher Report, according to a recent report by Marc Stein, it is "increasingly expected" that Caldwell-Pope will decline the option. The Orlando Magic and the Philadelphia 76ers are "weighing runs" at the 31-year-old, should he become available.
Caldwell-Pope is one of only two players to have won two NBA Championships in the 2020s. He was part of the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020 and helped the Nuggets win their first-ever ring last year.
At 31 years of age, Caldwell-Pope remains a solid player. He shot 46% from the field and 40.6% from beyond the arc while averaging 10.1 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 76 games last season.
Considering his efficiency and experience, someone like Caldwell-Pope has the potential to be an excellent addition to this 76ers roster even though he would not be the superstar signing the franchise are believed to be looking for this summer.
