Kyrie Irving Explains Why He Got A Fan Ejected From The Game: “I Looked Him Eye-To-Eye And See If He'd Say It To My Face."

The game between the Dallas Mavericks and the Charlotte Hornets saw yet another instance of a fan crossing the line.

In the third quarter, Kyrie Irving had a fan ejected from the game after he said something to the Mavericks guard.

Irving was asked about the incident after the game and he explained what went down.

“He just called me on my name,” Kyrie said. “So I just had to make sure I looked him eye-to-eye and see if he’d say it to my face. A lot of fans say things when you’re turning your head or they say it in the crowd because they can get away with it. But the majority of the time if I could look a fan in the face and see if they really want to say that to me. So he yelled it, I handled it.”

Kyrie didn’t reveal what exactly was said but it had to be something really bad for him to take those measures. It is a shame that we see instances like this with greater regularity these days, as just last month, Marcus Smart had a Sixers fan ejected from their game.

Some of Irving’s frustrations here might also be because the Mavericks just cannot seem to find the winning formula. Back-to-back losses at the hands of the Hornets have seen them fall to 7-13 since acquiring him and they remain out of the play-in spots at 11th with a 36-39 record.

While Irving’s play on the court was certainly not the reason for a lot of the losses, he did come up short here. He finished the night with just 18 points on 5-15 shooting from the field and had just 4 rebounds and 3 assists to go with it. His co-star Luka Doncic, meanwhile, had 40 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 assists and if he had some more help, they could have won here.

Kyrie Irving Had Some Strong Words For Mavericks Fans

This incident comes just a couple of nights after the Mavericks fans booed the team during their home loss to the Hornets. Irving wasn’t happy with the boos and sent a strong message to them after the game, saying they could swap places if they want.

Both Irving and the fans certainly weren’t expecting the team to struggle so much after trading for him. There were some off-the-court concerns with Kyrie, but no one expected them to struggle on the court. Their chances of making even making the play-in tournament don’t look great and to make matters worse, Doncic is suspended for their next game against the Indiana Pacers after picking up his 16th technical here. Another loss looks to be on the cards unless Kyrie has a big night.
