Forest Bend Fire Chief John Norris died from an apparent heart attack after fighting a fire in Friendswood.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Firefighters in southeast Harris County are in mourning after the death of Forest Bend Fire Chief John Norris.

He died from an apparent heart attack on Saturday morning.

Officials said he had just got home after fighting a fire in Friendswood.

Norris’ death is being classified as in the line of duty.

He had just been promoted to chief in September. He was with the department for 18 years. He also spent more than three decades with the Houston Fire Department.
