HUMBLE, Texas — Humble police are trying to learn the identity of a woman seen abandoning a dog at the city animal shelter Wednesday.

The young tan and white pit bull mix was tied to a dumpster around 1:45 p.m. outside the shelter on Dennis Ave., according to police.

“She proceeded to tie the dog who was struggling to the dumpster with a piece of orange 550 cord around his neck. The dog was struggling and thrashing while she did this,” Humble police posted on Facebook. “Once the dog was tied, you can watch it struggling, the suspect never looked back.

“Tragically, the dog struggled after her departure, causing the rope to tighten around its neck, ultimately leading to the animal’s death,” police said.

They said the puppy was unconscious and dead within two minutes after he was left there.

The woman was seen with the dog on surveillance video but police are still trying to identify her. We have blurred her face because she hasn’t yet been charged with a crime but police say she could face a felony animal cruelty charge.
