Gautam Gambhir meets Home Minister Amit Shah

NEW DELHI: Gautam Gambhir, the former Indian opening batsman and current mentor of the Indian Premier League (IPL) winning team Kolkata Knight Riders, met with Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday in a courtesy call.

Gambhir, who previously served as a Member of Parliament from East Delhi representing the ruling party, has decided to step away from active politics for the time being to focus on his coaching career in cricket.

"Met with Hon'ble HM Shri @AmitShah Ji to congratulate him on recent electoral success. His leadership as the Home Minister will further strengthen the security and stability of our nation!," Gambhir posted on X along with a photograph from the meeting.

According to PTI, Gambhir is a front-runner to succeed Rahul Dravid as the head coach of the Indian cricket team following the conclusion of the T20 World Cup. Dravid has verified his intention to resign from the position after the current tournament.

The BCCI secretary, Jay Shah, has not issued any official statement regarding the potential new appointment. According to reports, the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), chaired by Ashok Malhotra, has not yet conducted interviews with any of the prospective candidates.

Individuals within the BCCI believe that Gambhir's selection is a mere formality due to the absence of any other suitable Indian candidate who can challenge the Delhi left-hander for the position.

Since Gambhir led KKR to victory, the demand for him to become the coach has only intensified. Recently, during a promotional event in Dubai, Gambhir expressed his aspiration to coach the national team.
