OSCE assembly labels Russian actions genocide against Ukrainians: Resolution

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) adopted a resolution recognizing the actions of the Russian Federation as genocide against the Ukrainian people. Additionally, it highlights the need for the decolonization of the aggressor country, reports Pavlo Frolov, a member of the Verkhovna Rada, head of the Temporary Special Commission of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on the Protection of the Rights of IDPs, and member of the parliamentary delegation.

The politician specified that the resolution was adopted on the opening day of the summer session in Bucharest. It includes the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly's condemnation of Russia's 10-year military aggression against Ukraine.

The document recognizes the actions of the Russian Federation's military-political leadership and armed forces during the full-scale invasion of Ukraine as genocide against the Ukrainian people.

"The document also identifies the decolonization of Russia as a necessary prerequisite for establishing lasting peace," said the delegation member.

The resolution calls on the 53 OSCE member states to make efforts to de-occupy Crimea and all territories seized by Russian invaders through support for the Peace Formula and the Crimea Platform.

Additionally, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly's resolution calls for the establishment of a Special Tribunal to hold the Russian side accountable for crimes committed during the aggressive war against Ukraine.

It also calls for investigations at both the international and national levels into the mass atrocities, murders, and rapes committed by the Russian army in Ukraine, the deputy added.

The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly session will continue until July 3.

Earlier, it was reported that on June 26, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) adopted a resolution to establish a special tribunal for Russia. It is proposed to be based on an agreement between the Council of Europe and Ukraine.

The PACE resolution also calls for the recognition of the Russian PMC Wagner as a terrorist organization.

Additionally, in April, Ukraine's Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin stated in an interview with Reuters that Russia's crimes in the occupied Ukrainian territories demonstrate a pattern of genocide, which should be addressed within the country and, ultimately, by the International Criminal Court. He added that this is one big case.
