SINGAPORE – An event organised by the Singapore Bowling Federation (SBF) and Canon Singapore on June 29 raised over $40,000, more than double of its $20,000 target.
The funds from Strike for Smiles, which took place at SingaporeBowling @ Rifle Range, will go to the Singapore Children’s Society (SCS) and the One Team Singapore Fund.
Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu, who is also the Singapore National Olympic Council president, presented a cheque for $28,888 to SCS.
The funds were raised through fees collected from over 150 cosmic bowling participants, and from an auction of upcycled “artistically transformed” used bowling pins at the fundraiser, which also featured a meet-and-greet with national bowlers.
Participants donated a minimum of $750 to take part in a team of four, which would include two participants and two members of SCS.
SBF said in a media statement: “National bowlers appreciated the opportunity to take time out from training and competing to do their part in helping those less privileged in society.”
