Liverpool transfer news: Anthony Gordon's 'head turned' as Reds get green light for transfer

Liverpool's Arne Slot era is now upon us and while the Dutchman is officially at work in his Liverpool gear and will be pursuing his own transfer targets this summer/

The window is expected to be a slow burn as players remain focused on Euro 2024 and Copa America. As Mirror Football explained recently, Liverpool's transfer operations this summer is not expected to be one of revolution, despite the change of manager, but rather continuity.

The Reds are still in the mix for signings this summer, with defence a key area in need of recruitment give the recent outgoings.

Sporting director Richard Hughes has made clear that he is open to the possibility of signings - either as replacements for existing players, or if a bargain becomes available.

Below are the latest rumours from the world of Liverpool's summer window.

Reds given Kvaratskhelia greenlight

Victory for Spain over Georgia could have also handed an opportunity for Liverpool to press ahead with their interest in Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Napoli are intent on keeping the forward but reports have suggested he is unhappy at the Serie A club.

The 23-year-old - who helped his country to a first-ever knockout match with his goal against Portugal - confirmed last week that he would make his mind up on his future after the Euros in Germany.

The Georgia international has been subject to interest from Paris Saint-Germain, who reportedly failed in a whopping £110million bid. But it was reported that Kvaratskhelia was not keen on a move to Parc des Princes and would rather try his luck in the Premier League instead.

Liverpool still face competition for his signature from two unnamed Premier League clubs.

Gordon head turned by Liverpool interest

There is some concern brewing at Newcastle concerning Anthony Gordon.

The 23-year-old was linked with a surprise move to Anfield last week as the Magpies rushed to meet PSRs, but was denied the move to his boyhood club after Liverpool failed to match Newcastle's valuation.

And according to The Telegraph, Gordon was keen on the move and has had his head turned by the show of interest despite a bid not materialising. And Newcastle are worried about his state of mind before he returns for pre-season training.

Gordon has not been coy about his admiration of Liverpool, lavishing praise on the matchday experience at Anfield Stadium while revealing that Steven Gerrard was one of his childhood heroes while speaking on Gary Neville's The Overlap.

And yesterday, TEAMtalk reported Liverpool were prepared to bid £50m as well as Kelleher to encourage Newcastle to sell their star player.

Van den Berg transfer delayed

Mainz sporting director has suggested why the Reds are yet to sanction the sale of Sepp van den Berg.

Speaking to German outlet Fussball Transfers , Christian Heidel said: "We’re waiting. We’ve been in contact with Liverpool several times.

"When Liverpool starts training, there won’t be a central defender there because they’re all spread out at the European Championships and the Copa America and then they want to take a look and take their time."

Liverpool are hoping to bolster their defensive ranks following the departures of Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara.
