Summer vacation officially starts for NYC public schools; new education programs coming this fall
Well, it is the start of summer vacation for students at New York City Public Schools, but city leaders are wasting no time gearing up for the next school year. They just announced a new curriculum. And news 12. Brittany Cadet joining us now from PS36IN Unionport talking to kids and parents. And Brittany, how are they feeling now that school is officially out for summer? Well, Amanda, as you said, school is out officially for the summer, and those students that we were talking to at dismissal are just excited to start off their summer season now. We've been speaking to both parents and students, and some students even told us that they're going to miss being in that classroom. Our last day of school was actually pretty great. I had a lot of fun. There was even plenty of activities. Beginning this fall, Mayor Eric Adams and Schools Chancellor David Banks unveiled the creation of DIAL. It stands for Division of Inclusive and Accessible Learning. This will focus on supporting multilingual learners and children with disabilities. They also unveiled a new math initiative called NYC SALPS, which will be focusing on math concepts that you encounter every day. Families we spoke with say these new programs are important. Growth. I feel like it'd be better to help them learn and that they understand and communicate with things going on in life. With that, it's helping them to grow as a person and succeed more and elevate in life. The mayor also says that this new program will have a $750 million budget, and that will be for the dial program and about 1300 teachers will be assigned to broaden these new curriculums. We're in Union Park. I'm Brittany Cadets, News 12, LeBron. Early.
