Heat Showed Interest in 24-year-old Before Mavericks Trade

It will be very interesting to see how the Miami Heat approach this offseason now that it has emerged that Jimmy Butler is not planning to leave in the summer despite weeks of speculation.
The Heat clearly need to improve if they want to contend, having been eliminated from the first round of the playoffs by the Boston Celtics last season, although Butler and Terry Rozier did miss the series.
The problem is that the Heat do not have a lot of flexibility at the moment. So, let's see how they go about their business this summer.
It looks like they have already missed out on one potential trade target, with him heading to the Dallas Mavericks.
According to Michael Scotto on X, Quentin Grimes, who is headed to the Mavericks via the Tim Hardaway Jr. trade, also drew interest from the Atlanta Hawks and the Heat on the trade market.
Grimes was selected 25th overall by the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2021 NBA Draft before being traded to the New York Knicks.
Grimes spent a few years plying his trade in New York and even started regularly for them in the 2022-23 season before being traded to the Detroit Pistons earlier this year.
Someone like Grimes would not have been a game-changing addition to the Heat by any means but he could have proven to be a solid contributor off the bench, a role one would expect him to have in Dallas as well, behind Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving and P.J. Washington.
