‘Crocodile on a city tour’: Viral video from Maharashtra shows reptile after heavy rain
A crocodile was seen on the streets of Chiplun in Maharashtra's Ratnagiri after rain lashed the district. According to reports, the reptile is believed to have been washed away from the nearby Shiva River.
The viral video shows a commuter making a video of the crocodile as it crawls to the sides of the road. The video also captures an autorickshaw driver taking a video from his mobile phone. “Khidki band hai guys! (Windows are shut, guys!),” a commuter says in the video.
Sharing the video, an X user wrote, “Why the crocodile crossed the road !! A video from from Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, where a crocodile on a city tour. Hope everything went safely.”

Reacting to the video, a user commented, “May be loss of habitat due to flood.” Another user wrote, “So now it’s their turn to take over our area.”

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rain in several districts of Maharashtra on Monday, July 1, and the showers will continue in Ratnagiri district until July 2. "Heavy (64.5-115.5 mm) to very heavy (115.5-204.4 mm) rainfall is very likely at several places over Central Maharashtra on 30 June and 01 July, 2024," IMD wrote on X.
The Southwest Monsoon reached the Kerala coast and progressed into parts of Northeast India on May 30. This year, the Monsoon arrived two days earlier than its typical onset date of June 1.
