After India's historic T20 World Cup win on June 29, Virat Kohli took to Instagram to celebrate the win with an emotional note and announce his retirement from the T20 format. The legendary cricketer's picture is now officially the most-liked post on Instagram in India, with more than 18 million likes.
Virat's post on World Cup victory has dethroned Sidharth Malhotra-Kiara Advani's wedding picture to become the most liked Instagram post in India. While Siddharth and Kiara wedding photo has over 16 million likes, Virat's post has over 18 million likes. The star cricketer shared the photo hours after winning the World Cup. He shared a photo of his teammates, celebrating with the trophy. He also posted a couple of photos of the celebrations that continued in the locker room. He wrote, "Couldn’t have dreamt of a better day than this. God is great and I bow my head in gratitude. We finally did it 🇮🇳❤️🇮🇳❤️jai hind ❤️❤️❤️."
In 2023, Kiara and Sidharth made the record for the most-liked Instagram post in India. They got married on February 7 amid much fan frenzy. Their wedding announcement, which featured stunning photos of the couple from their nuptials, captivated fans and garnered widespread attention. Before Sid and Kiara's wedding post, it was Alia Bhatt who held the record with 13.19 million likes on her wedding photo with Ranbir Kapoor.
Though Virat's post continues to gain likes, it is still far behind Lionel Messi's post which holds the current record for the most-liked post of all time. The footballer's post celebrating the 2022 FIFA World Cup win has been liked by over 75.3 million.
