Bollywood's Badshah, Shah Rukh Khan, is one of the richest actors in the world, with his net worth estimated at a whopping $760 million. His home, Mannat, holds the title of 'The Most Expensive Bollywood House.' But there was a time when SRK had no roof over his head in the city of dreams. He only had a black Gypsy, which was later taken away because he couldn't pay its EMI. Actress Juhi Chawla, SRK's co-star in several films and close friend, recently recalled his humble beginnings.

Juhi Chawla on SRK's financial struggles

Speaking at an event organized by the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Juhi recalled how SRK didn't have a place to stay in Mumbai. He would travel from Delhi for shoots.

She said, “I remember Shah Rukh those days didn't have a home in Mumbai. So he used to come from Delhi (his hometown). I don't know where he stayed. He used to have tea with the unit (the film crew), eat with the unit, and blended in the unit seamlessly. He also did 2-3 shifts then. He was doing Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman (1992) with me, Dil Aashna Hai (1992), and another film with Divya (Bharti, Deewana, 1992). He was very driven.”

When SRK's car was taken oneSRK's garage is home to several luxurious cars today, but back then, he only had one car, which was also taken away by the bank. This left SRK upset.

Chawla added, “He had a black Gypsy. But it was taken away one day because he couldn't pay the EMI, or there was something. He came on our set very dejected. I told him, ‘Don’t worry, you'll have many more cars one day.' And he still remembers that. Because it's true. Look at him today.”
