Producer Aruna Guhan, who is now one of the producers of the Tamil film industry’s most respected production houses, AVM Productions, has now disclosed how her grandfather M Saravanan had a set erected according to director and actor Visu’s specifications during the making of the cult classic ‘Samsaram Athu Minsaram’

Taking to Instagram, she wrote a piece titled “ #AVMTrivia | The Samsaram Athu Minsaram house.”

Stating that Samsaram Athu Minsaram held a special place in cinema history for various compelling reasons, the young producer recalled that despite its modest budget, the film had garnered a lot of acclaim and admiration.

“During the 1980s, it was common practice to create elaborate sets for both indoor and outdoor scenes in movies. Visu Sir had specific requirements for the house where Ammaiyappan Mudaliar’s family resides, which is central to the story. Rather than searching for an existing house that met these criteria, in a unique move, my grandfather Shri. M. Saravanan decided to construct a house from scratch.”

The House Set Used In Several Other Movies

“Remarkably, the house and the surrounding street featured in the movie became iconic locations, appearing in numerous other films in multiple languages in subsequent years – Raja Chinna Roja, Patti Sollai Thattathey, Rajini Sir’s Mannan, Dharmadurai, Guru Sishyan and Kamal Sir’s Avvai Shanmugi and Michael Madana Kamarajan to name a few,” she disclosed.
