‘Cape Town is similar to Europe’ – Ex-Orlando Pirates star

It’s not often difficult to find a new team after playing for a big brand like Orlando Pirates. Just ask Fortune Makaringe.

CAPE TOWN CITY SIGN FORTUNE MAKARINGE

Following a season spent on the bench, the 31-year-old midfielder from Johannesburg was released by Orlando Pirates at the start of June. The former Moroka Swallows and Maritzburg United star has now been announced by Cape Town City, where he will reunite with coach Eric Tinkler.

“Cape Town City is delighted to announce the signing of midfielder, Fortune Makaringe. The South African international signs a 3 year deal, as Coach Eric continues to assemble his squad for the new season,” the Citizens announced.

“Cape Town is similar to Europe, especially Cape Town [the] City, the culture and diversity” Makaringe told the club’s media. “You can tell by the way they welcomed me. What attracted me the most is their [club] style of play. I think it is one key component each and every player looks for,” the former Orlando Pirates star added.

ORLANDO PIRATES SIGN THUSO MOLELEKI FROM ORBIT COLLEGE

Orlando Pirates have reportedly made another signing for the 2024/25 season. Meet Thuso Moleleki.

According to iDiski Times’ leading reporter Sinethemba Makonco, the Buccaneers have signed Orbit College’s exciting 24-year-old attacking midfielder Moleleki on a three-year deal, subject to an offiical announcement from the club after 30 June.

“Soweto giants Orlando Pirates have completed the signing of Orbit College midfielder Thuso Moleleki, iDiski Times has learnt,” the report said.

“This publication has been informed that Moleleki has penned a three-year deal with an option to extend it for a further two years with the Buccaneers, but the club are yet to announce his signing,” the note added.

NEW DEAL FOR MIGUEL TIMM

Moving to Orlando Pirates does not mean you have made it as a Buccaneer. Miguel Timm signing a new contract extension at 32 does.

Playing football for a living is not really easy. It often comes with plenty of disappointments and setbacks that demand persevence. The Durban-born Timm signed for Orlando Pirates in 2022 at the age of 30, before signing a new two-year extension on Thursday at the age of 32. Has it always been this encouraging for Timm? Not really.

Starting his career at the SuperSport United acamedy, Timm was certain he was going to the top. He could not imagine he was going to be moved on loan to Mpumalanga Black Aces, become clubless, move to the United States before later finding himself without a club.

Here’s his full journey before arriving at Orlando Pirates in 2022.

“The 32-year-old midfielder’s current contract was due to expire at the end of the month, but he has now put pen to paper to extend his stay at the club, keeping him on board the Bucs ship for the 2024/25 campaign, including an option for an additional season. Since his arrival in 2022, Timm has established himself as a key cog of the Pirates team and he has gone on to register 63 matches – winning four cups.
