Netflix's Wednesday Season 2 Needs More Horror

  • Jenna Ortega showcases talent in season 1 of Wednesday, setting high expectations for a darker and scarier season 2 on Netflix.
  • Potential horror elements for Wednesday season 2 include a stalker storyline, mysterious characters, and eerie atmosphere at Nevermore Academy.
  • Fans anticipate a more tension-filled season 2 as Wednesday faces precarious situations, potentially adding more suspense and intrigue to the show.

While some were uncertain about seeing a TV show about Wednesday Addams, Jenna Ortega showed everyone her incredible talent in season 1 of Wednesday on Netflix. Her spunky and tough character continued to do things her own way, even while attending a new school far away from her fan-favorite parents Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Gomez Addams (Luis Guzmán).

After Jenna Ortega said season 2 will be "darker," fans got excited about what Wednesday season 2 would look like. Although season 1's tone is equal parts creepy and funny, there are a lot of ways Wednesday season 2 could be scarier than season 1. This would not only be fun to watch, but would also allow the show to do something different than the first eight episodes.

Actor George Burcea recently revealed that he won't be back for the next season of the Addam's Family spin-off. While Lurch isn't a big character and may not necessarily be back next season, he is a fan favorite, so the successor will have big shoes to fill...literally.

How Wednesday Season 2 Can Feel Like A Horror Movie

Since Wednesday season 1 ended with Wednesday having a stalker, this seems like it will be the major mystery in season 2. Wednesday season 2 can increase its horror elements by featuring scenes similar to those of home invasion thriller movies. Wednesday should always feel like she has to look over her shoulder while at Nevermore Academy, whether she's sitting in class or spending time with her roommate Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers). This would be particularly effective since Jenna Ortega's character is so tough and independent. Viewers wouldn't expect her to actually feel fear, but if she knew that she really could lose her life, she would definitely be terrified.

Wednesday season 2 can also include more scary scenes by leaning into the mystery and dual nature of Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan). Fans are debating Tyler's Wednesday season 2 plotline and think it could be fascinating to delve more into who he really is. In order to make the show more of a horror story, Tyler could convince Wednesday that he's good now while continuing to act in an evil manner. That would make for some unnerving and fun scenes. Wednesday might even think that Tyler is her stalker. While this would hopefully not be the case since this would be too obvious, it would make sense that she would feel that way.

Since there are so many horror movies with school settings,Wednesday season 2 should use the Nevermore setting more. While the school does look pretty creepy in season 1, there's a lot more that could be done. From Wednesday wandering campus at night to people lurking in the shadows, it would be a shame not to create a scary atmosphere for the next batch of episodes. If season 2 includes less charming scenes of the Nevermore students having a good time together while getting involved in school competitions, then a scarier tone could be achieved.

Finally, Wednesday season 2 should put Wednesday in some truly precarious and scary situations. One of the potential criticisms of the first season is that it never really feels like she's in danger, even though her life is on the line in a few episodes. Since Wednesday has a stalker, they could trap her in her dorm room or a classroom, or make her think she's meeting Enid and show up instead. There is a lot of potential here. Since Jenna Ortega has starred in so many horror movies, she knows how to act in this type of environment.

What Horror Elements Are Included In Wednesday Season 1?

Season 1 of Wednesday centers around the terrifying Hyde Monster, and that's definitely the biggest horror aspect of those eight episodes. There's no denying that the creature, with its fangs and huge eyes, is creepy. But at the same time, it never seems like the Hyde Monster would actually kill Wednesday, which makes him a little more innocent than he should be. Many of the season 1 episodes end with a cliffhanger or eerie moment, which is an effective storytelling device that should be repeated in season 2.

Season 1, episode 1 called "Wednesday's Child Is Full Of Woe" offers a promising start with a montage of the trouble Wednesday has gotten into at her old school. She shows no remorse over what she's done, which is what fans expect from the famous character. The rest of the episodes don't deliver as many scares as they could, though. Wednesday, who is one of Jenna Ortega's most memorable TV characters, always seems to outsmart the people around her, which makes it seem like she will always win no matter what. Hopefully, that will change in Wednesday season 2 as the Netflix series needs some more tension.
