New Delhi: A plea has been submitted before President Droupadi Murmu to expel Hyderabad MP and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi from Lok Sabha over his Palestine remark he made while taking oath in Lok Sabha on Tuesday, June 25.

Advocate Hari Shankar Jain, while highlighting Article 102 of the Constitution, said a member of either house is liable to disqualification in case MP allows "allegiance or adherence to a foreign state."

"It is strange that Asaduddin Owaisi after taking oath immediately raised slogan to show that he is in adherence and allegiance to that state. It is a very serious matter and a threat to national security," Hari Shankar Jain said in a plea to the President, as reported by TOI.

"The slogan raised by Asaduddin Owaisi is a threat to the security, sovereignty and integrity of the nation. It is an extremely serious and critical issue which requires immediate attention and proper action in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 102 r/w 103 of the Constitution of India," he said.

Owaisi on Tuesday stoked controversy by chanting a 'Palestine' remark after taking oath in Lok Sabha, the Bharatiya Janata Party said that "there are grounds to disqualify him from Parliament as per extant rules."

It all started when All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi chanted 'Hail Palestine" as he took oath as a member of the 18th Lok Sabha.

The move sparked a massive row with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders alleging it is against "the rules of the House.

Defending his remarks, Owaisi said the slogan he concluded his oath-taking with did not violate any provisions in the Constitution.
