BBC Breakfast's Sally Nugent breaks silence as she's missing from show again

BBC Breakfast's Sally Nugent was noticeably absent for the second consecutive day, as Jon Kay and Sarah Campbell took the helm on Tuesday (June 25).

The 52-year-old journalist usually presents the BBC show alongside Jon, 54, from Monday to Wednesday each week. However, Sally has been replaced by her colleague Sarah Campbell, who also works on BBC News, for the past two episodes. Despite her absence from the early morning BBC programme, Sally has remained active on social media.

She reposted a memory from a year ago on Instagram, shared by makeup artist Patrick Bartley. The photo showed her alongside the MUA, Channel 4's Steph McGovern, and BBC News journalist Lizzie Simmons-Wood. The group appeared to be enjoying a sunny holiday together, all sporting smiles and sunglasses.

Before her absence this week, Sally had presented the show last Monday and Wednesday. On Friday, she featured in a pre-recorded interview with the late Rob Burrow's wife, Lindsey Burrow, discussing their relationship, family, and her late husband, reports the Express.

This followed the sad news that rugby player Rob, who had raised awareness of motor neurone disease (MND) following his diagnosis, had passed away at the age of 41 earlier this month. Sally, who was acquainted with Rob and is reported to have become friends with his family, had promoted the segment on her X account the previous day.

At the time of Rob's passing, Sally, aged 52, took to social media to share a series of touching photographs of the rugby league icon. The images captured him in joyful moments with his loved ones, engrossed in a game, and one particularly poignant photo featured a heartfelt note he had written for his family.

The message said: "To Lindsey, Macy, Maya and Jackson. Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars. Love always Hubby/Daddy." In her Instagram tribute, Sally echoed this sentiment, writing: "Shoot for the moon. Land in the stars @rob7lindsey xxx".

Sally also expressed her admiration on X, previously known as Twitter, saying: "Smallest player on the field. But a giant of a man. There's only one Rob Burrow."
