The Los Angeles Rams are looking into renegotiating quarterback Matthew Stafford's contract to create more financial flexibility. Stafford, who joined the Rams in 2022 and helped secure a Super Bowl victory, is currently signed to a four-year, $160 million deal that extends through the 2026 season.
"As it stands right now, Stafford’s cap hit is set at $49.5 million for the 2024 campaign," said The Rams Wires' Cameron DaSilva. "The good news for the Rams is that a new deal could help lower his cap hit in 2024 and make it more manageable."
The Rams are aiming to return to their championship form under head coach Sean McVay. After a disappointing 5-12 season in 2022, the team bounced back with a 10-7 record last year and made it to the playoffs. Lowering Stafford's cap hit could provide the financial leeway needed to strengthen the roster and make another deep playoff run.
The potential contract adjustment for Stafford could be a key move in the Rams' efforts to maintain competitiveness in the coming seasons. By deferring some of Stafford's salary, the team can address immediate needs while planning for future financial obligations.
