In cruel twist, it's those who cleared exam now getting sleepness nights
PATNA: As uncertainty looms over those who have cleared this year's NEET-UG amid the turmoil let loose by the paper leak fiasco and demands for a retest, many are turning to psychologists to seek professional counselling to deal with the current situation.
"NEET-UG does not follow a pattern and is known for its ever-changing nature and unpredictability. Amid this, if re-examination is ordered, I might not qualify again," said Vidisha Kumari, who has returned from Kota, having spent five-long years to crack the exam. She had scored 667.
Vidisha isn't alone. Fear for the future has been forcing many to spend sleepless nights. There are over 50,000 seats in govt medical colleges and about 24 lakh students had registered for NEET-UG 2024.
Amid a CBI probe, political parties, including grand alliance's RJD, Congress and CPI-ML, have demanded cancellation of the NEET-UG 2024 even as the SC has ordered counselling to go ahead while also seeking response from the Centre and NTA on pleas asking for cancellation of the exam. Counselling for NEET-UG will start from July 6.
"My daughter, who had scored 666 out of 720, is depressed and we are consulting a doctor," said mother of Julie Singh (name changed), who stayed with her daughter in Kota for five years as she prepared for the exam.
Dr Saurabh Kumar, a psychiatrist in Patna, said a number of youth has been visiting him who have cleared NEET-UG and are worried about their future.
