Chennai Super Kings will begin their campaign in the IPL 2024 in the opening day of the season on March 22 in an electrifying match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The biggest question on everyone’s mind going into season will be if this is their star skipper MS Dhoni’s last season in the IPL. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has now revealed what N Srinivasan, the principal owner of the franchise thinks about the future of the joint-most successful captain in IPL history.
In an interaction with Subramaniam Badrinath for his YouTube channel, Kasi Viswanathan said that there have been internal talks and N Srinivasan has made it very clear that the coach and captain will decide who will be appointed as the next captain and vice-captain of the franchise. Till then he has asked everyone to keep quiet.
“See, there have been internal talks. But, Mr. Srinivasan has made it very clear. Let’s not talk about captain and vice-captain appointments. Let’s leave it to the coach and the captain to decide. Let them decide and convey the information to me, and then I will convey it to you all. He has said that ‘the captain and the coach will decide and give us a directive, till then let’s all keep quiet’,” Viswanathan stated.
Viswanathan aso said that first aim for the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2024 is to qualify for the knockout. He also revealed that MS Dhoni said that they would need to concentrate on league games first.
“We have always focused on qualifying for the knockouts. That’s our first aim. After that, it depends on the performance on that day. We are following that even now. Before every season, MS Dhoni tells us ‘first let us concentrate on league games. We will look to qualify for the knockouts’. Yes, the pressure is there. But over the years, because of our consistency, most of the players are used to this pressure,” Viswanathan said.
What MS Dhoni Said After IPL 2023 Final
MS Dhoni, after the IPL 2023 final, hinted that he would play another season of the IPL, and one year later, after a successful knee surgery, returns to lead CSK for the upcoming IPL 2024.
“Circumstantially, this is the best time to announce my retirement. But the amount of love I have received all over, the easy thing would be to walk away from here, but the harder thing would be to work hard for nine months and try to play another IPL.”
