Jules Hudson announces new career move after taking Escape to the Country break

Jules Hudson has announced his latest career move following him taking a break from Escape to the Country.

The presenter revealed he will be embarking on a new venture away from TV work after admitting to becoming "burnt out". He recently took a three-month hiatus from his television career in order to have a much-needed time out. Jules has been presenting the BBC property show since 2007.

He has now shared he will be making an appearance at the Ledbury Poetry Festival this weekend. Jules will read poems that have meant the most to him over the years and has encouraged his fans to join in. His appearance at the festival comes after his "reset". "Late last year, I realised I was quite burnt out and needed a creative and emotional reset," he said.

"My wife said 'Why don't you take some time out and go to the Boat Building Academy?'," he told Lyme Regis and Bridport News in February. "I thought about it, and it dawned on me - what am I waiting for? So, I investigated the courses here at the BBA, saw the 12-week furniture-making course and took the jump and enrolled."

The presenter had previously visited the academy while filming Escape to the Country in 2012 and said he "fell in love" with the course. Jules is used to having a busy schedule so decided to take the opportunity of having time off to pursue is passion. He spent three months perfecting the skills he had learnt and despite his three-month break, the presenter has insisted Escape to the Country fans should not fear.

He revealed last year that he has no plans to leave the property hunting show as he told the Express: "I hope to do Escape to the Country for as long as I'm able and for as long as the show will have me." The TV star added: "I absolutely love it, it's a show I'm incredibly fond of. It's very dear to me."

Away from the cameras, the television presenter lives with his wife Tania Fitzgerald, their young son Jack, and two Labradors, Teddy and Lolo. Jules tends to keep his family out of the spotlight as he said they found living in the capital difficult so they moved away to somewhere greener. Speaking to The Times in 2020, Jules said: "I found London very claustrophobic. There's an energy about it that I absolutely love, but I need green fields and space."

The couple, who tied the knot in 2016, decided to find somewhere they'd feel more comfortable. After some property hunting of their own, they ended up in the West Midlands. "We knew what we were looking for - something with space, something with outbuildings. And having its own plot was really important to me," Jules added.
