Manipur government releases funds for UPSC candidates who travelled outside state
The Manipur government on Friday released funds for the allowance of candidates residing in the hilly districts of the state, and who appeared for the UPSC-CSE (Civil Services Exam) 2024 by travelling outside the state.
The step came after directions by the Supreme Court.
(Amid the ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur, the aspiring civil service candidates of the Kuki community did not come to the capital city, Imphal, to write their exams. A majority of exam centres were thus located elsewhere, for which the candidates demanded financial assistance. They approached the Supreme Court with their demand, which later obstructed the state government to release funds.)
Giving out information about the allowance, Khumanthem Diana Devi, Deputy Commissioner Imphal East District, in a public note, confirmed that the state government has released funds for the concerned deputy commissioners.
The official note also mentioned the amount sanctioned for each of the candidates who applied for the assistance - Rs 3,000 per day for three days, which came to a total of Rs 9,000 per candidate.
Though the preliminary examinations were held on June 16, the state government was still receiving applications to claim assistance.
Later, the state government notified June 25 as the deadline to receive applications to avail the monetary benefit.
The public notice further informed that all candidates who want to avail the benefit should send their applications along with relevant documents, including their respective UPSC-CSE admit cards, bank account details, and residential certificates.
