An Australian man visiting Melbourne was baffled by a 'terrifying' yet legal way to turn right at a busy intersection.
Corey, who goes by @coreyyy.exe on TikTok, described the horror of the dreaded 'hook turn' which 'nothing prepares you for.'
He pulled up to a busy Melbourne intersection and to his horror saw a car in the middle of the intersection on his left waiting to turn right, prompting him to ask 'what is going on here?' in disbelief.
Hook turns were first introduced onto Melbourne's streets in 1965 and intended to give priority to trams at intersections so that they weren't delayed waiting for cars to turn right.
Confused, Corey asked followers whether this type of turn is normal practice anywhere else in Australia or internationally.

One former Sydneysider responded that even after living in Melbourne for 10 years she still hates hook turns, with another person 'hyperventilating' just reading about the scenario.
