Official: Hampton & Richmond sign Ted Curd on loan from Chelsea
Chelsea youngster Ted Curd has joined Hampton & Richmond Borough FC on a season-long loan today, without any additional clauses, continuing our modern tradition of sending young goalkeepers to non-league teams for some real-world experience that they could never get just standing in goal in youth football.
Hampton & Richmond currently play in the National League South (née Conference South), which is the sixth tier of the English football pyramid, two steps below League Two. They finished 9th last season.
This will be the second loan for 18-year-old Curd, who spent the first half of last season at Hashtag United, one tier below his current assignment. He made 16 appearances for them before being recalled; he made two senior bench appearances for us subsequently.
Curd was born in the neighboring borough of Kingston, and is set to be a key part of the Beavers this season.
“This is a very exciting signing for us. Ted is a local lad who has been coming to the club to watch games in his spare time, so he already gets what it means to be here. His achievements speak for themselves, and the game time he received at Hashtag will have been invaluable, especially in terms of the physicality of non-league.”

Good luck, Ted!
